Long-term cohort epidemiological studies on nontumor morbidity among the Chornobyl clean up workers 1986–1987 have been conducted on the data of the State Chornobyl Registry of Ukraine. There was established a significant increase in circulatory diseases, the latter being the main cause of early disability and mortality in postaccident period. The highest incidence rate was registered during 1998–2002. Cerebrovascular diseases, ischemic heart disease and vascular diseases (those of arteries, arterioles, capillaries, veins and lymphatic vessels) made the most contribution to the structure. There were revealed some age-specific features of the above pathology: incidence in the age group 40 years and older at the time of exposure was significantly higher compared with the age group under 40 throughout the study; but in the dynamics of observation growth rates were higher in younger age group. Maximum increase in both age groups was recorded for cerebrovascular pathology mainly due to cases of stroke, cerebral infarction, cerebral arteriosclerosis, hypertensive encephalopathy.
Key words: morbidity, circulatory diseases, the Chornobyl clean up workers, age at the time of exposure.
