Long-term cohort epidemiological studies on circulatory diseases among the Chornobyl clean-up workers 1986–1987 have been conducted on the data of the State Chornobyl Registry of Ukraine. There was established a significant increase in acute cerebrovascular diseases (stroke, infarction, etc. (430.0–436.9 ICD-9; ²60.0–²66.0 ICD-10), the latter being the main cause of early disability and mortality in postaccident period (1998–2009). There were revealed some age-specific features of the above pathology — incidence in the age group 40 years and older at the time of exposure was significantly higher compared to the age group under 40 throughout the study; but in the dynamics of observation growth rates were higher in younger age group. We have found the significant relative risks for acute cerebrovascular diseases among the Chornobyl clean-up workers 1986–1987 younger than 40 at the time of exposure with whole body dose 0.25–0.7 Gy during 1998–2002 (RR=1.38(1.01;1.89), ERR (Gy–1)=0,8), the dose range 0.05–0.7 Gy in the period 2003–2007 (RR=1.67(1.28;2.17), ERR (Gy–1)=8.9); among persons over 40 at the time of exposure with whole body dose 0.1–0.199 17–22 years after the Chornobyl accident (RR=2.18(1.46;3.25), ERR (Gy–1)=7.8).

Key words: morbidity, acute cerebrovascular diseases, the Chornobyl clean-up workers, risks.
